Trudy Busch Valentine v Eric Schmitt For MO Senate 2022
(NRPI.org) – The midterm elections slated for November 8 are heating up with the candidature of aspirants confirmed in August. Following the retirement of Senator Roy Blunt, the soon-to-be-open Missouri senatorial seat is a hot race that has captured the attention of many people, even outside the state. Whilst the senate seat has been held by the Republicans since 1987, a Democrat winning this election could sway the balance of power in the Senate in Washington D.C.
A YouGov and Saint Louis University poll shows that Missourians are likelier to send Schmitt to the senate over Valentine. Interestingly, however, the poll indicates that both candidates have lost ground with the voters. 8% of Valentine’s compared to just 6% of Schmitt’s voters shifted their support to independent John Wood, who later withdrew his candidature.
Trudy Busch Valentine (D)
Trudy Busch Valentine, a newcomer on the political scene and a member of the Busch Beer Family for change, won the Democratic Party (D) endorsement, beating Lucas Kunce in the process. Busch is. She has put a lot of personal investment into her campaigns, receiving a lot of endorsements from local leaders and union groups. “I’m running to put politics aside and to put people first” is her campaign motto, seeking to address Health Care, Affordability & The Middle Class, Children & Families, and Accountability & Values, among other issues.
Eric Schmitt (R)
Eric Schmitt is the GOP’s (R) flag bearer for the 2022 Missouri Senatorial race, winning by 46%, overtaking Vicky Hartzler (22%) and Eric Greitens, who emerged second runners-up with 19%. Schmitt is currently the incumbent Attorney General for Missouri and has stated the reasons for his ambitions beyond state borders. Among other issues in his campaign, Schmitt advocates for Election Integrity, Supreme Court justices, and Religious freedom.
Other candidates
Jonathan Dine- Libertarian Party
Paul Venable- Constitution Party
The unpredictability of this race makes it interesting, with the results cementing the scale to which Missourians weigh their opinions on the issues of the economy, abortion, and gun violence.
