Ron Johnson VS Mandela Barnes For WI Senate 2022 — Who Has Your Vote?
(NRPI.org) – The Senate is currently deadlocked, with 50% members from both the Republican and Democratic parties. Both parties are looking to positively shift that metric to gain control of the house by winning two more seats. Currently held by Ron Johnson (R), Wisconsin is shaping up to be a two-horse race, with many opponents of Democrat’s Lieutenant Governor Mandela Barnes dropping out of the senatorial battle.
Wisconsin is not considered and has not been a blue state for a while due to various factors. The Democrats did not have an impressive performance in 2018. When facing Scott Walker (R) for the governor’s race, the Democrats won by 1.1%. Two years later, President Joe Biden barely won the presidential election, tipping the win by just 0.6%. NB: All these statistics are referenced in “Let’s Talk Elections.” However, a recent poll by Fox News shows that Barnes is leading statewide projections at 49.4%, while Johnson trails him at 47.1%. 3.5% of the voters are undecided.
Ron Johnson (R)
Ron Johnson is the current senator of Wisconsin and is seeking re-election in the 2022 midterms. He was first elected to the position in 2010 and again in a re-match in 2016, both times defeating Russ Feingold. Currently, he also serves on two senate committees. Johnson’s motivation for re-election is detailed in the issues and results section of his campaign manifesto.
Mandela Barnes (D)
Mandela Barnes is a top contender for the Democratic Party, so it seems to bring the victory home. Barnes served in the Wisconsin State Assembly from 2013-2017 but did not seek re-election to the assembly in 2016. Barnes is currently the lieutenant governor of Wisconsin, a position he has held since his election in 2019.
