Marco Rubio VS Val Demings For FL Senate 2022 — Who Has Your Vote?
(NRPI.org) – The U.S senate midterm elections are due on November 8, 2022, and 34 out of the 100 seats are up for grabs. There’s a close contestant in Florida between Marco Rubio, the incumbent Republican, and Democratic ex-cop Demings. Marco Rubio will seek a third six-year term, which has been since 2011, while Val Demings will seek her first Senatorial job after serving as a congresswoman for three terms. As the campaign period ends, several polls show a slight lead for Marco Rubio over Demings.
According to an Insider Advantage poll by Fox35Orlando, Marco leads at 46% while Demings follow closely at 44%. This puts the incumbent senator in a winning position, but barely. However, according to Matt Towery, founder of the Insider Advantage, voters’ turnout will determine the final results despite the close Marco lead shown by the polls. The average opinion polls published by RealClearPolitics also showed a slight lead in favor of Marco Rubio.
Marco Rubio enjoys strong republican backing, with the party having more registered voters in the state. His extensive political career also gives him an upper edge over Demings. He has also sought to link Demings with President Joe Biden by claiming that she’s “just another blame-America-First Rubber stamp” in a Twitter post.
Demings also has a fair share of competition. As a former cop and a three-term congresswoman, she is expected to put a tight race against Marco Rubio. She also enjoys massive support from her home city, Orlando, and African American voters. If elected, she may be the first black woman senator in the US.
Despite trailing in the polls, Demings has outpaced Rubio in campaign funds. As of August 3, she had raised $47.2 million for her campaign compared to $36.5 million raised by Marco Rubio. This has seen her spend fortunes on statewide television ads, although Rubio has also launched his share of statewide TV commercials, but not as extensive as Demings.
