John Fetterman VS Dr. Oz For PA Senate 2022 — Who Has Your Vote?
(NRPI.org) – Fetterman (D) and Mehmet Oz (R) are among the eight candidates running for Pennsylvania’s U.S Senate seat come November 8 2022. The incumbent, Senator Pat Toomey (R), will not be seeking to be re-elected for the seat.
Is Pennsylvania Traditionally Red or Blue?
Pennsylvania can be considered a battleground state. In the 2018 senate race, Lou Barletta (R) won against democrat, Bob Casey Jr (D) 56% to 43%. In 2016, Toomey (R) was re-elected after defeating Katie McGinty (D) by 49% to 47%. The state vted democratic in up to six elections leading to 2016, and when Trump won the state, it was by a small margin of 0.7%. In 2020, Biden also won by a thin margin of 1.2%. This is one of the two states where Republicans will be defending a seat where Biden won in 2020.
Major Candidates
John Fetterman
John Fetterman is the state’s lieutenant governor after he was elected 58% to 41% together with incumbent governor Tom Wolf in 2019. He has also served as Braddock’s mayor between 2006 and 2019.
He debuted his professional career in the insurance industry. He has served in AmeriCorps and later moved to Braddock in 2004. After becoming mayor in 2006, he revitalized the city’s steel industry through youth and art programs.
As a progressive, he advocates for improved healthcare, strengthening the relationship between Israel and the U.S., criminal justice reform, legalizing marijuana and raising the minimum wage to $15 per hour.
Mehmet Oz
Dr. Mehmet Oz has had a successful career in the medical sector. He is a native of Cleveland, Ohio and has written books, of which 8 were New York best seller. Politically, he has been an active member of the Republican Party of New Jersey local chapter and even donated to Bill Frist and John McCain. He also supported former President George W. Bush’s re-election campaign in 2004. He has served on the President’s council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition for two years but later removed from the seat as a result of policy differences based on Biden’s administration.
If he wins this seat, he will be the first Muslim to serve in the U.S. Senate and the U.S Congress as a Republican. The issues he will be tackling include access to more affordable healthcare, securing the border and handling immigration matter, improving education, handling corporate America issues such as big pharma and response to COVID-19.
