Catherine Cortez Masto VS Adam Laxalt for NV Senate 2022
(NRPI) – Nevada has been divided relatively evenly between Democrats and Republicans historically – making it a battleground state. In addition to it being a battleground state, Nevada- the most populous state in the Western United States- is also considered to be a bellwether state. The original meaning of the term is as a directional indicator and so can also refer to an area’s political ideology and voting patterns which mirror those of its surrounding area. Nevada has voted for the winning presidential candidate 87% of the time since 1900. This 87% rate makes it one of the most consistently accurate indicators in election forecasting today.
Each candidate has a different view on these topics, which is why it’s important for voters to know where they stand.
Cathrine Cortez Masto (D)
Incumbent Catherine Cortez Masto is a Democrat who believes in human-caused climate change and therefore supports the growth of green jobs and increasing Nevada’s reliance on solar power and other forms of clean energy. She supports policies for stricter gun control and banning certain gun related accessories. In addition, she believes in marriage equality; she supports legal access to safe, legal abortions; opposes the withholding of coverage for birth control based on religious beliefs. She also refuses to repeal protections for LGBT Americans.
Adam Laxalt (R)
Adam Laxalt, who took over as State Attorney General after Cortez-Masto, continues to support the Second Amendment and remains opposed to restrictive gun control policies. Instead, he wants to focus on rising prices across the nation – especially when it comes to basics goods such as gas and housing costs – which impacts everyday Americans’ quality of life. Another aspect that Adam Laxalt’s campaign focuses on are topics related to immigration; for example he plans to build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border and implement policies similar to Trump’s “Remain in Mexico” plan so that these individuals aren’t able to enter America at all.
Additional candidates include Barry Ruhberson from the Independent American Party, Neil Scott from the Libertarian Party, and Barry Lindermann from the Independent party.
