How to Become a Poll Worker

Poll Workers Are Heroes — Here’s How To Become One

(NRPI) – Poll workers are key to our democracy. Every election, these officials help administer polling sites to ensure every voter can cast their ballot. Without them, there would be no way to safely and accurately carry out the democratic elections that preserve liberty in this great nation.

Becoming a poll worker is a great way to contribute to the political process and ensure fair elections. So, how do you become a poll worker? Depending on your state, becoming a poll worker in the US is a straightforward process.

Here are a few tips to help you become a poll worker in your state.

Confirm Eligibility

Not everyone can become a poll worker, so the first step is to find out if you are eligible. Use the State Compendium of Election Worker Laws and Statutes to find out if you meet the eligibility requirements in your state. Check if:

  •  there’s a residency requirement
  • political party affiliation is required
  •  there’s an age requirement
  • you need to be a registered voter in the state.

Register with an Election Office

Reach out to your local election office and sign up as an Election Worker. They’ll be thrilled to add you to the Election Day Team.

Pursue Training

Follow up with your local election office to confirm your participation and ask about additional training needed. Many states and local election offices require training to learn about specific protocols for managing the polling location.

Show Up and Participate

Show up on election day to support your community. You are free to leave and enjoy watching the results unfold when polls close, knowing that you played an integral part in making it all possible.

Poll workers are the lifeblood of the election system in the United States. These election officials play a critical role in safeguarding the strength and integrity of the voting process. Sign up to become a poll worker today and help make voting possible in your community.
